As many of you may know, I had gastric bypass surgery on 3/25/08 and have lost over 160 lbs. This surgery has completely changed my life in every way imagineable. I was lucky enough to have this procedure covered by my insurance, and it breaks my heart that other morbidly obese people who suffer daily with co-morbidities are being denied over and over again for a surgery that could dramatically improve their quality of life.
In April of 2010, I signed on as the Vice President of Public Relations for the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America. I am honored to be part of this foundation, and this is a way for me to give back to the community that helped support me through my weight loss journey (and that continues to support me and keep me on track).
During my first year and half, I was also quite ill with a life-threatening kidney condition. Unable to exercise while in and out of the hospital, I fell into a rut and have been lucky enough to maintain my weight loss despite my lack of exercise.
I have long wanted to train for and complete a 5K race, but have found it difficult to keep with it and be motivated. Organizing this fundraiser is a way for me to be accountable and to commit to a cause while focusing on maintaining my health and moving my body. I may not be able to run (fingers crossed!) the entire race, but come or highwater, even if I have to be pulled caveman-style by my hair across the finish line, I WILL complete this race! This is my promise to the weight loss surgery and obesity community and it’s supporters.

I have a friend he has a great personality and heart. I enjoy being with him on a more than friendship level. He has a lot of health issues. Hypertension, swollen legs and feet, bad sleep pattern, sleep Apnea, diabetic and all that goes with Obesity. He forgets to take medication. He says he doesn’t take water pill because it makes him urinate to often. He truck drives night shift 12 to 14 plus hours a day and the increase urination makes it inconvenient in both work and sleep. He is a Capricorn. I am a Pisces and it is in my character to help people. I have suggested Bypass surgery but he has a fear of that. We have discussed the Lap Band. He has an insurance that might not pay for the surgery. Please include suggestion on how to pay for the surgery cost if insurance does not cover. Thank You
I agree that he has to want to do it himself, and that you can help him , motivate him to some degree.
