Exercise Shoes. Physical activity is absolutely essential for you to accomplish your weight loss goals and attain a higher level of fitness. And moderately vigorous walking is the number one, top-rated activity that you can perform to virtually guarantee you will lose weight. So you need to choose a good pair of walking shoes which fit properly and feel comfortable on your feet.

If it hurts for you to walk because your shoes are not very good, then you won’t continue a walking program. So you might as well spend a little extra money up front to buy a great pair of walking shoes. Then get out there and start walking your way to weight loss success!

Pedometer. Once you start walking you will realize that you ought to start keeping track of how far you walked each time, as well as how long did it take you to walk. A good quality pedometer can help you to easily monitor the number of steps you take, the distance you have traveled and the time it took for you to do it.

Caution: do not purchase a pedometer just because it is more inexpensive than other brands or models. With a pedometer it is better to pay a little more for a good quality one. Most cheap pedometers are very inaccurate and often break down quickly. You get what you pay for when it comes to pedometers.

Heart rate monitor watch. You can dramatically improve the efficiency of each workout by monitoring your heart rate and making sure your heartrate stays within your target heart rate zone. A heart rate monitor watch is simply the best tool to help you get the most out of each workout. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a good quality model. However, be cautious of any heart rate monitor under $50 as these brands and models are often plagued with problems.

Food and Activity Journal. Want to double your weight loss results? If so, then keep a daily journal of the foods you eat and the activities you do. This is a research proven fact: people who keep a daily food diary lose twice as much weight as those who do not. You can use a paper and pencil approach or go with a high-tech solution on your SmartPhone and the Internet. Do it daily and watch the pounds melt away.

MP3 Player. This is a smart option because you can spend your time walking and exercising while also listening to motivational speakers to encourage you on your weight loss journey. Or you can simply listen to your favorite music, or find some interesting audio books. It’s a great way to pass the time quickly while also getting in your daily fitness activity. You can spend $40 and have a perfectly fine MP3 player, or you can spend $300 on an iTouch – it’s up to you.

Five Hidden Health Advantages Of The Tummy Tuck Operation

Posted on August 31st, 2010 by Jack Callen in weight loss surgery | No Comments »

The tummy tuck cosmetic procedure, known by professionals as abdominoplasty, is certainly more well known than it used to be. Many people are aware that the procedure will tighten stomach muscles, and remove excessive skin, which will improve a person’s appearance. But there are multiple other added health benefits to this procedure.

Tummy tucks help to create a strong, firm stomach when the stomach has gotten so out of shape that it can not be repaired by exercise or diet. A tummy tuck gives a person a firm, flat belly which helps to improve his or her appearance. When a person has a tummy tuck his or her new stomach will feel tight and firm. This can give a person a lot more confidence and make their clothes fit better.

Generally a person gets older they will find that their skin loses elasticity. This is particularly visible on the arms, neck and abdominal area. This op will remove that skin making the stomach more attractive. It also used help to remove extra skin that can sometimes become infected with fungus. In the long-term these things are of real benefit to person’s psychological health.

In addition to being unsightly, lower abdominal fat is known to place pressure on the circulatory system. It is associated with high blood pressure and other issues. Abdominoplasty surgery will manually remove these fatty tissues, with measurable effect on the cardiovascular system. Together with changes to lifestyle and diet this can have a considerable positive effect on the patient.

Tummy tuck surgery is also possibly helpful for diabetes. Insulin has been found to be less effective where there is a large amount of abdominal fat, evidenced by a large waist measurement.

A very common but understated benefit of tummy tuck surgery is that it sets many people onto a new path of healthy living. Once they have a better self-image, many individuals work hard to keep it, typically through increased exercise.

Finally, abdominoplasty surgery can help anyone to have a better body shape and physical appearance. And plus it also has a lot of health benefits that are valuable to the patient.

Weight Loss Surgery? Whats your opinion and what are some options?

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 by admin in weight loss surgery | 1 Comment »

I have tried everything to lose weight. I exercise and I am eating way less. Its just not working.. I don’t get how people dish out so much money for weight loss surgery. Do they offer payment plans? What are the different kinds? Any stories good or bad? I need opinions!

I have no personal experience with the surgery … but have 5 friends who had gastric bypass and 1 who had the lapband.

The commitment is to change one’s eating habits. Period. One person did and has maintained a healthy lifestyle. The other 4, including the lapband did not change their eating habits and didn’t exercise and all have gained back weight — weighing less than before but still not healthy.

I can’t give you an opinion … all I can do is suggest that you make a list of all your questions and speak to a few doctors and a few facilities to find out as much as you can about everything!!!

Good luck!

Does anyone know of a weight loss surgery you can get after having a gastric bypass?

Posted on August 18th, 2010 by admin in weight loss surgery | 6 Comments »

I has a Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass in 1997 and kept off the weight until 2005. I had multiple pregnancys back to back which I believe stretched out my pouch. I have not gained all the weight back, but I am feeling quite depressed and defeated. Anyone have ideas on surgery?

You could see a surgeon about the possibility of having a revision, to make the pouch smaller. I did have a friend who had that done. The recovery, according to him, was a little harder the second time around (and he is a physician), His pouch had not been made small enough in the first place. But, if your pouch is still a reasonable size, (and it stretches out the first year or so after surgery, naturally, to hold about a cup full) you won’t be eligible for a revision. Besides, there is a 5-20% regain in the first 10 years after surgery,If you can get a revision, the only option is good old diet and exercise. The tool is still there, you just have to use it. Maybe, maybe the lap band can be done if your pouch is way too big.

How old do you have to be to get weight loss surgery or a lap band?

Posted on August 17th, 2010 by admin in weight loss surgery | 1 Comment »

I am 13 years old and about 145 pounds overweight. Thank you any one who can answer my question! I want to know if i can get some kind of surgery to make me lose weight…

Hi Kim,
Most surgeons will required you to be 18 or 19 years old. The Lap Band, and other weight loss surgery, should be considered only as a last resort – if years of trying to lose weight just have not worked.
